Intenational i Power event: 13th & 14th of june 2017
It may seem like a long way away but if you want to avoid disappointment, you’d be wise to register your interest in attending the International iPower 2017 event as soon as you can.
Planned to be the broadest and largest conference for i-UG to date, the conference follows the same plan as last year but with some notable and innovative additions for this year.
This year, the conference is returning to the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, Milton Keynes, which adjoins the MK Dons Football Stadium. This two-day (+) conference will take place on: Tuesday 13th & Wednesday 14th of June; with some optional activities scheduled for the Monday 12th.
The trusted and well liked staples will be there as usual but with a host of new content: -
Day 1 …. Educational Labs
Half day and full day, deep dive, hands on workshops
20-minute Company Introductions or New Product Information sessions
Social evening entertainment for a chance to mingle with like-minded professionals
New for this year, the main Keynote will be on the evening of day 1
Workshops currently scheduled are: -
Writing Web Services - Development
Working with IBM Navigator for i – performance
Working with IBM Authority Collector – security
Working with IBM Administration Runtime Expert – Workload Management

Just as previously, these will be classroom, hands-on labs with top lecturers like Paul Tuohy, Steve Bradshaw, Andy Youens and leading IBM technicians.
Day 2… Conference educational sessions
A whole range of topics are covered including: -
•Advancing your IBM i and network security and reducing Attack Vectors
•Where Customer Relationship Management is now
•The future of money in the Digital Age of Cryptocurrencies
•POWER-AI – after Watson; it was what POWER8 was designed for
•Plus - Communications, Cloud strategies, Business Intelligence etc.
•As well as all that is new with IBMi and DB2
Working with key service providers
This year, i-UG is inviting key software and service providers to arrange their own User Group meeting to coincide with the International iPower event. i-UG will welcome and host these vertical User Groups on Day 1 of the conference in some of the excellent break-out rooms that i-UG has managed to secure and are available alongside the regular Labs and Education rooms. In the evening of this pre-day 1, the User Groups are then invited to the Social Evening and will be welcome to join us in the main i-UG conference the following day.
If you are responsible for organising User Group events like this, including centralised vertical education, new product launches or upgrade announcements, please contact Colin to discuss how to add real value to your event by joining us at i-UG and the International iPower 2017 conference.
Visit to TNMOC Bletchley Park on Pre-day 1
This is an additional afternoon, just ahead of the main International iPower conference, where some overseas guests – and any other conference delegate that would care to join us – will be taken on a tour around TNMOC – The National Museum Of Computing – where we can look back at the most elementary pieces of computing power, right through most of our childhood computers; a great contrast to today’s POWER computing world.
i-UG will have a booth at the conference where we will be promoting the group and conducting our own on-line survey – anonymous – which will be available to all members and will give us all a better picture of what levels of IBM hardware and software are being run and which key software products and services prevail.
Once again, and by popular demand, we are hosting the ‘Executive Round Table’ which will be chaired this year by Alison Butterill, IBM i Offerings Manager, who is now the main conduit between IBMs’ development teams and the clients/users. We will shortly be opening the portal on the web site where you can nominate your ‘C’ level and senior executives from any part of the business to come along and have a face-to-face discussion on where IBM is going and what its commitment to our platform is. Unfortunately, due to the very nature of the session, the places are limited – at this time we are projecting just 8 seats. The i-UG board will select the attendees from the nominations made, so please get these in as early as possible.
For those of you who attended one of our 2016 events, you will know that we were fortunate enough to experience some top quality presentations and workshops from some of the best presenters around. 2017 will only build on that legacy and aims to bring in more variety, more people to mingle with and more applications, tools and services to brows and discover. Who knows, a simple discussion with just one of your peers could reveal the process, service, product or service that just might make your life easier and your IT offering to the businesses richer and more profitable.
Prices have been frozen to the same as last year!
